New City Planning Commission

I’m asking the city to hold off on all major planning decisions, including residential and business development, until we establish a planning commission. We need a more effective way to ensure community input flows between residents and the city. I’m excited that we may start the process for building a new walkable town center for Cypress, with restaurants and shops and entertainment, but we need to make sure the community can provide input during the entire development process.

Striking the Right Balance on Development in Cypress

My Priorities

  • Clean, Quiet, and Safe Neighborhoods.

Clean, quiet, and safe neighborhoods are the cornerstone of a thriving community.

The Cypress Police Officers Association is one of my biggest financial supporters. I look forward to working with them to ensure they have the tools, technology, and support they need. I would like to explore adding additional resources, such as a mental health and homeless specialist to address our growing homelessness problem.

Additionally, I will advocate for investments in our parks and natural areas to ensure our public spaces are enjoyable, clean, and free from pollution. This also means more walking and bike paths connecting residential areas of Cypress to retail areas.

  • Prioritizing Education and Families.

The needs of our families come first, which means investing in quality education by supporting and collaborating with our excellent schools. I will also prioritize inclusive planning and community engagement to ensure the city meets families' needs and provides platforms for residents to voice their concerns.

  • New Restaurants and Businesses that Reflect Diversity.

I will take a proactive approach to attract and welcome new restaurants, grocery stores, mini-marts, and businesses that reflect Cypress's diversity. My goal is to transform Cypress into a vibrant destination for diverse dining, entertainment, and recreational experiences.

I also want to add more variety in city programming, which is detailed below.

  • Create a Sense of Belonging for All.

Due to the pandemic, many Americans are experiencing increased isolation and a lack of community connection. This is particularly true for younger families, minority groups, and older retirees who feel disconnected. I am committed to ensuring that we provide adequate services for our children and families, support for our public servants and volunteers in their community work, and wellness programs for our older residents that enhance their quality of life. Additionally, I aim to introduce more diverse cultural events in Cypress to revive our sense of community and celebrate our diverse backgrounds.

  • Accountability and Transparency.

Ensuring accountability and transparency within our city council is fundamental to promoting trust and maintaining integrity. I will ensure open communication with residents, regular updates, and accessible information.

I'm in favor of all major city contracts going out to bid every 5 to 7 years to ensure we get the best deals possible. If city council members are receiving money from businesses, they should not be voting on contracts with the same businesses.

  • City Planning.

All major planning, housing, and development projects should include the voices of the community. I will create new commissions to make sure we aren't wasting time and money planning the future development of Cypress.

The land along Katella, on and around the Los Alamitos Race Course, represents one of the greatest opportunities for development for our city. That will be site of our future town center and commons area, with wide open spaces and surrounded by shops, restaurants, and entertainment. I envision walking and bike paths connecting Cypress to our new town center, coming south from the Sorrento neighborhood and West from Costco.
